I love taking portraits of people.   The process itself, the picture taking, is a pleasure for me.   The casual interaction … the relaxed conversation … the playful work.

As we talk and shoot, I seek to produce images that have a thoughtful, interior quality.   Images that bring out something of the inner person … that capture the smile beneath the smile.

In the end, I hope the person will look at their portrait -- and see something new … something revealed. Light of course is central to photography … and especially to portraiture.  I prefer natural light.  I do photograph people with indoor, studio lighting when necessary, but I feel I get the most provocative images in warm, afternoon light.
